  • H8 wet feet – from Hokie

YHC is known for his dislike of wet feet so there was some concern after last night’s rain as to whether I would continue Murph training at The House of Pain or opt to plan B.

As I arrived, Backed Up was excited for Murph Training and announced he brought a heavy duty band to aide in pull ups. Well, out with my Plan B and we started our saunter over to the House of Pain with phone lights aiding in our attempt to keep our feet dry.

After an explanation of The Murph, and Murph training, we took care of the disclaimer and welcome and started our warm up with SSH, high knees and arm circles.

We then started with 2 minutes to complete 3 pull ups, 6 hand release merkins and 9 squats and then rest for the remaining time.

    Then onto more 2 minutes rounds for 4-8-12; 5-10-15; 6-12-18; 7-14-21 and finally 8-16-24

We then took time to recover by introducing Pax to additional preparation with Bolt 45 and 1 minute of speed humpers

Next 2 minutes was set to just complete 8 pull ups and 16 hand release merkins

Another two rounds of Bolt 45, speed humpers and 8-16 with 1 minute low slow squats between sets

For our final stint in The House of Pain, 3 Pax would hang for 1 minute while the remaining Pax did an exercise… 1st group, hand release Merkins for “non-hangers”; 2nd group- squats; and 3rd group – burpees.

We then moseyed to the H8 hill because part of The Murph is running. We would run the H8 route of up the hill; Bear crawl across, run down, across & up; bear crawl across; run down and across to complete figure 8.

YHC has decided Murph training will now be 5-10-15 rinse and repeat to 60 pull ups, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90 over the next few weeks

  • Best Warm Up Ever … words not heard – from Hokie

YHC arrived at El Diablo and at 0529 gave a disclaimer including we would push ourselves but not hurt ourselves.

We moseyed to the football field and Rudy was kind enough to get his speaker and 311 playlist.

Today’s Tabata Style workout would have a leg portion, then shoulder portion and would close with an ab portion.

YHC “claimed” the leg portion would serve as a warm up. Fast Tax, Boo Boo and Rudy mumbled and chattered indicating they did not agree.

Each portion would have 7 exercises with 45 seconds of work and 15 seconds of rest. We would do each portion twice through. 14 minutes per portion.

  • Good with Coupons, Bad With Counting – from Logo

A Foggy Morning Beatdown was enjoyed by 11 Pax in the friendly confines of Pontiff Field. We started with a warm-up of Side straddle hops, grass grabbers, Hillbilly’s, Abe Vigodas, and arm circles. Moseyed to the field with our rocks for a little “It’s all about the Benjamins workout 25 chest press, 25 walking lunges (with coupon) 25 chest press, 25 lunges back to the start, planking for the 6. 25 Curls, 25 walking lunges (with coupon), 25 curls, 25 lunges back to start, planking for the 6. 25 shoulder presses, 25 walking lunges (with coupon), 25 shoulder presses, 25 walking lunges back to start, planking for the 6. 25 kettle bell swings, 25 walking lunges (with coupon), 25 kettle bell swings, 25 walking lunges back to start, planking for the six. Then we moseyed over to the parking lot and did a farmer’s carry relay race. Unfortunately, the pax had trouble counting 1,2,1,2,1,2, so we ended up with 6 2’s and 4 1’s, so the 1’s took the race. Each pack took a relay turn farmer carrying 2 coupons the length of the parking lot and back while the remaining pax did rock work and Mary – chest press , LBC’s , Shoulder press, box cutters, curls, American hammer. Losing team was supposed to do 20 burpees, but we ran out of time, so we’ll make those up next time. Back to flag for COT.

  • From No Q to Q School – from Hokie

YHC saw the schedule with “Q needed”

So while in route to see if PVC was posting solo while Frac was out of town, I thought about Q School.

Upon arrival I was greeted by PVC who was all alone.

So we started with a disclaimer and Q school as me moseyed toward the path around the stadium with periodic stops and showing PVC various styles of workouts using SmartWOD… EMOM, AMRAP & Tabata

We also discussed cadence vs OYO.

As we wrapped up our 45 minutes we found Kenner Brah

  • Murph Week 3 ~ with a little “H8” running – from Hokie

YHC struggled getting out of bed this AM and came in hot at 0529 for the 0530 Q

Earlier in the week, I posted asking who wanted to continue with Murph training and who wanted to train for the H8. The brief discussion had one vote for Murph and no votes for H8 so off top the “House of pain” we 5 moseyed.

    Two minute intervals
2-4-6; 3-6-9, 4-8-12, 5-10-15, 6-12-18 and 7-14-21 (Pull Ups – Merkins – Squats) after completion on the three exercises; rest for the remainder of the two minutes.

Effort was called upon to focus on form with full extension and chin above the bar on pull ups.

After the 6th round of 7 pull ups, 14 merkins and 21 squats, we ran to the home of the H8 for one “lap” running up the hill, bear crawl across the neutral ground, run down the far side and across and back up, bear crawl across the neutral ground, then run down toward Lake Pontchartrain and back to the house of pain for round 2.

After round 2, we ran to the Mardi Gras Fountain and back to the flag for 10 burpees and one final lap around the Mardi Gras Fountain.

Thank you to Mahatma for the tunes and encouragement!

Thanks to all pax along with some assists for those of us who need to cross our legs and get assistance with pull ups.

Next week 3-6-9, 4-8-12, 5-10-15, 6-12-18, 7-14-21 AND 8-16-24 and a Double H8 run!!! I will bring the bands for those who need assistance with pull ups.

There was some mumblechatter that possibly the Q forgot Sunday Mornings and “we better not finish late for coffee” but alas “Halt” was heard and we went to the front of NOMA to close with 1 minute of Sunday mornings

    COT
    – Prayers were lifted for the upcoming relocation of Bay Watch to Jackson, MS; for his house sale, and his house hunting.
    – Prayers were lifted for the Frac and his upcoming trip to Vegas this Wednesday through next Monday to connect with his siblings in support of his sister who just lost her husband unexpectedly

I was a little dissatisfied with this Q, as possibly being a little too easy, so I will try it again this Tuesday over at Best Bank Batture with some modifications.

  • Hogs Breath Last Stand – from Hogs Breath

This was YHC last Q before I left out for a six month deployment. YHC meant to give a much more advance notice, but alas I didn’t send out a slack notification till Sunday night at about 5:30pm. So I was not expecting a decent turnout as I pulled into Heritage park [The 007] at 5:20am Monday. However, I was pleasantly shocked as I saw a gaggle of Northshore and Southshore pax already waiting on me!
As I planted the shovel-flag I welcomed everyone and explained the 007 got it’s name from “Live and Let Die” James Bond movie, which had a boat chase filmed on adjacent Bayou Bonfouca.

    Disclaimer: Given

    Warm Up
We began right off the back with a “Waterfalls Tunderstruck” all the pax formed a circle of pain around the shovel-flag and began SSH of Imperial Walkers. YHC turned on AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck” and upon the first ‘thunder’ began to do burpee’s. Once the next ‘thunder’ was sung the pax to the right began burpee’s. This repeated in a waterfall fashion. Unfortunately Fletch, Einstein, and Pass Interference all got stuck doing burpee’s during the long instrumental breaks!
To stretch our backs out we then did 8 IC Abe Vigoda

    The Thang
    Mosey to the coupons,
We then did a coupon exercise completely made up on the spot! A row, a curl, an overhead press, then a squat for 1 rep. We then did 8, despite Hokie claiming that YHC had “pissed someone off….”
Then mosey with our coupons to the playground, where we did 8 of the above ‘crazy eight’ then 8 pull-ups. YHC said to do 3 rounds of this, but got a little over-zealous and lost count, so YHC alone did an extra set of pull ups.

Then we did a coupon walk to show off all the 007 has to offer. We walked along the water’s edge to the West towards Palmettos restaurant. YHC said upon every bench we would do 3 weighted step-ups. And at every “cleat” we would do 3 squats. But no-one spoke nautical so we didn’t understand what dock cleats were… and there are no actual dock cleats instead boats are expected to moor up directly to the pylons. So YHC would just randomly call out squats at various landmarks, whether it be a BBQ grill, a light post, a corner of the sidewalk. The walk provided for lots of mumblechatter and for Murdock to get to know many of the other paxs.
Upon the round-trip coupon walk, we dropped the coupons back to their resting place.
With only 5 mins left, we normally would preform some Mary. However, wanting to showcase the AO, YHC had everyone preform a series of bearcrawls / backward runs around the circular sidewalk in front of the amphitheater. The benches would be the marker for the bearcrawl or the backward run.
    Completed at the shovelflag

Ended with COT and Coffeteria at Starbucks.

Gentlemen, it has been a true honor to beat myself down with y’all. This is an amazing organization which I will truly miss for the next six months. Y’all have kept my sanity during these last few years. All the way to Coffeteria where I received numerous offers to help out my family while I’m away, I am humbled it be amongst the shadows of such great men!
