  • Late to the Party – from Akbar

7 strong this morning, with YHC 15 minutes late, setting the alarm for 4:50 pm. Body clock woke me up, quick text to Hammer to get us started, and on the way. Arriving to 6 pax and the shovel flag that Quarterpipe picked up from a previous beatdown, we were ready to go. Day 1 home alone while the M is out of town for 2 weeks. Expecting the Whacker to show up after 3 days of silence, disappointment set in for a no show. Great to see Moby Dick down from Covington.

Hammer got started with 11’s, Merkins and abs – which didn’t register with YHC – we started with a DORA. Plank Jacks, Merkins, and abs of choice. P1 works, P2 runs to the white mailbox and back to relieve.

Head to the playground for pull ups and jump squats x 10 OYO, 3 sets

Benches: Bulgarian split squats and freak nasties x 10 IC, 2 rounds

To the swing set for Swerkins – Feet on swing, Merkin and tuck x 10. Jump squats after x10

Lungewalk to center court and finish with abs x10 IC
Flutter Kicks, Rosalita, Wife Pleasers, E2K left and right, Hello Dolly.

Count, Name, and Hammer prayed us out with thoughts of his case and me home alone with kids for 2 weeks while the M is out of town.

Announcements – Zoorich Classic Saturday at the Lakefront. Men’s Dinner and speaker at St. Timothy Thursday.

pop-up and pop-down squats at the top, forward and reverse lunges at the bottom, back-peddling and fore-peddling on the flip-flop run up and down the ramp.

All had fun…with mumble chatter about Jose10k honeymoonig, BBQ missing in action, and cuz Bushwacker dealing with sequestration under the Jesuit “cone of silence.”

    Count-o-rama
Prayers/intentions offered for cancer patient, heart patient.
Prayers/intentions offered for cuz Bushwacker – while he’s silently retreating at the Manresa facility in Convent, LA.

DarkWingDuck led us out with prayer.

  • The artist formally known as “Jose10k” – from Jose10k

I arrived to the A1C, driving through a downpour of rain, ready to work out. The skies opened up and cleared. I got out of my car and began warming up when my partner in crime, Moby, arrived. Now Moby, in a second life, was Bob Breck. He informed us of the incoming storms, so we went down to the second level to get out of the way of the storms that never did show up. I offered an olive branch to the notorious Russo. An offer of a truce, to get together and work out the differences between the splash pad and the A1C. Russo scoffed at me, and I believe pulled a Sampson towards me by “biting his thumb at me” So, the rumble is still on.
We need to continue training for the cage match with the rowdy group from the splash pad. I don’t know if it’s at the level of the greasers vs socs rumble, the sharks vs the jets, the hatfields vs the mccoys, maybe even to the level of tom vs jerry. The talking is getting serious, so the training must get more intense. I heard that the splash pad was using the ancient teaching of Miyagi Do karate: wax on, wax off, paint the fence, sand the floors…, so we at the A1C knew how serious these gents were. We knew where we had to get our training from: the only practical source of knowledge of men our ages: 80s movies. Should we practice kicking banana trees like JVD in Kickboxer, running up snow covered mountains, splitting firewood a la Rocky Balboa in Rocky IV, or maybe increasing our cardio with some giant piano dancing like Tom Hanks did in Big? Perhaps even bring in bicycles to train like they did in RAD. Too many to choose from for just one beat down, and plus, did I forget to mention, I am leaving tomorrow to fly to the Caribbean to get married. I am not crushing myself this morning. I will save those epic training sessions when I get back, so hold onto your butts…
Warm-up: ssh, torso twists, self love, windmills, grass grabbers, arm circles, hi jack, hey jills,
Beginning: bruno mars think I’m gonna marry you, simple concept, ssh for the song, drop for a burpee each time the word Marry is sung.
I promised Katie that I wouldn’t kill myself, so I kept it simple. 4 corners, 10 merkins, 15 squats, 20 big boy situps at each corner. Bear crawl the width, back peddle the length halfway, turn and sprint the rest. After that, round robin tabata, 45 seconds on , 15 second rest. The conversations were excellent as always. Including retirement, job opportunities, and of course, 80s classic movies. Including the hilarious Grumpier Old Men, National Lampoons, and of course, Kickboxer.

COT, mention of the Inferno tomorrow, Hammer prayed us out. Everyone have safe travels, have great celebrations with your family and friends, and I will see you on the other side Ray. The next time I see y’all, I will be a happily married man. SYITG!

  • Write a Backblast – from Einstein

A humid 72 degrees for the gathered PAX, this Wednesday morning, at The Gipper.

    Warmup:
Toe Touch, SSHops, Good Mornings, Neck Rolls, Arm Circles, Shoulder Slingbacks, Imperial Walkers, Ankle Rolls, Hillbillies, High Kneees, Butt Kicks, Scissors, Thumb Drives, Swimmers, Hi-Jack-Hi-Jills, Smurf Jacks, Ice Skater Hops etc.

mosey to the coupon cache location (tautology?, maybe…I’ll check my Harbrace handbook)

Event: grab your cinder block; lift it, pull it, push it, carry it, etc. finishing up with murder bunnies uphill and downhill (yes there is a three foot hill at the Gipper location)

Mary: flutter kicks, gas pumps, plank

Count-o-rama, DarkWingDuck leads us out with prayer and intentions.

    Thanks guys. Always fun.

  • The Chain and then some – from Mobydick

If you don’t sign up to Q you risk getting on the chain gang. A brisk cool morning at the Gipper. Four of us showed and no one had signed up to Q. YHC included had procrastinated. Just so happens I had been thinking of some new chain exercises and this was just the group to try them out on so I, Mobydick, stepped up. A light warm up geared to the challenge to come. Self luv/Torso twist combo OYO for about a minute/SSH 4 is 1 to 20x/Cherru Pckers X20. Windmills X20. Merkins 2 is 1 x20. Interior walker x20 High Knees x20. Now for the thang.
I thought perhaps there is more to the chain than dragging.

Laid it out in 4 piles and each PAX hand over to the left shoulder tap. Then to the right 2 rounds back and forth.
Then. Passed chain bucket brigade style up high back and forth 2 rounds

Then Same thing only out stretched

Then pass then chain between the legs forward and back a couple of rounds

Then curls with a large loop of chain x20

The call of the drag got to be too much so the PAX separated 2 and 2 by 50 yards, doubled the chain and 1 man dragged the chain the 50 yards while everyone else did the exercise of their choice til their turn (Plank/al gore/lunges/etc). That went through 3 or 4 rounds. 1 round being the first man got back to where he started. A lot of huff and puff and glute burn.

Finished off with some core Leg Lifts/Hello dollies etc.

Countarama and YHC closed out with prayer of gratitude that these fine men had help this 73 yo one time couch potato discover the strength hidden within himself.

  • DICTATOR DECK OF DOOM – from Einstein

A slightly muggy 67 degrees at 5:15 a.m., at the A1C, atop the Justice Center Parking Garage.

    Warmup:
all 15xIC: toe touch, ss hops, imperial walkers, neck rolls, high kneees, butt kicks, shoulder press, ankle rotate, hi jack hi jill, arm circles, scissors, hillbillys, etc.

Thang: Deck of Doom – using card deck, caught on the fly, at the KREWE D’ETAT parade .

Each of the Pax is assigned a suit. When their suit is pulled – they pick out the exercise, and whatever number turns up – that’s the amount of reps.
with this twist added – if the same suit shows up on the next card turn, the count doubles, triples, or in one instance this morning “fourples.”
The idea was to keep it lite, this morning, so all would be fresh for the upcoming FURY, but it turned into a sweat fest.
Jose-10K kept us focused on the high math.

All had fun…with mumble chatter about BBQ missing in action, with speculation of what action could posible keep him from posting at A1C.
then the fun stopped when Moby Dick blasted us with a “wendy’s chili special.”

    Count-o-rama

DarkWingDuck led us out with prayer.

  • LET’S GET READY TO RUMBLE!!!!!!! – from Jose10k

The cage match of death challenge has been accepted. Russo threw down the gauntlet, and the boys at the A1C answered the call. The Pelican and Russo in one corner, Jose and Moby in the other. Dipping our hands in glue, then into shards of glass (Kickboxer style). The boys at the splash pad don’t know what they’ve gotten themselves into. Y’all know him as Moby, but on the street he goes by many other names: “The Master of Disaster” , “The King of Sting”, “The Dancing Destroyer”, “The Prince of Punch”, and “The Count of Monte Fisto”. The Pelican needs to fear him. We have the upper hand, we’ve got an ace in the hole, we’ve got Turbo Dog. A five pound vicious Kujo ball of aggression. Today was just another day to prepare for the showdown for Friday beatdown bragging rights.
    Warm-ups: various stretches, nothing special
The beatdown: KISS (keep it simple stupid) 4 corners (10 merkins, 15 squats, 20 lbcs), rinse and repeat 5 times.
    Moby prayed us out.
    Tomorrow, Marsh Madness
following weekend, the convergence known as the Fury.

  • Back to the Blocks – from TurboTax

Back to the blocks this morning in the Gipper gloom. Four PAX took the red pill and lined up for some coupon work after the usual warmup of SSHs, shoulder taps, toe touches, Peter Parkers, windmills, Parker Peters, imperial walkers, and plank jacks. Armed with his personal block (which curiously seem to have gained weight since the last time we used them), each PAX carried, lifted, dragged, swung, and rowed the block to test his metal over a short forty yard course. There were lunges, bear crawls, crab walks, carioca, runs, backpedals and shuffles thrown in the mix to keep things lively.

Countorama, nameorama and Barely Legal prayed us out. Thanks for following my lead this morning guys and thanks getting after it with me this morning.
