  • Back in the Game – from TurboTax

Great to be back in the game with my F3 brothers. 7 strong at The Gipper this morning. After a warmup of butt kicks, shoulder taps, high knees, Peter Parkers, seal jacks and Parker Peters, we moseyed to the Taj Mahal for some EMOM action. Bobby Hurleys, curtsey squats, toe touches, ice skater hops and Sister Mary Katherine’s were the order of the day for 30 long minutes. Finished things off with some wall sits and vertical jumps before returning to the Shovel Flag where Fletch prayed us out. Thanks for letting me lead guys.

  • Paul Bunyan ain’t my name but chopping wood is the game. – from Fletch

Warmup: SSH’s, windmills, merkins, seal jacks, grass grabbers, shoulder taps and imperial walkers.
Grabbing some coupons we moseyed to the parking lot on side the woodwrights shop. We continued with 10 IC curls for the girls and shoulder presses.
Thang:15 Wood chops on a tractor tire with a sledgehammer. Upon completion that pax would shout out an exercise for the rest to perform while he moseyed around the block with his coupon. Following the first pax the next in line would start chopping wood while we performed the exercises etc., till we completed 4 rounds. Returning to the Gipper, with a good sweat worked up, Barely Legal prayed us out. Thanks for letting me lead. Much respect for these men.

  • Krazy Ivan IV: Speedy Sings, Fracsac Frowns – from The Hammer

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair…for Fracsac apparently. The man who has a folder on his phone dedicated to the Freedom Hammer was crestfallen for a second year running. Bordering on tearful, Fracsac and his Southshore breathern had to witness a spritely Speedy Gonzales hoist the Freedom Hammer in triumph after the Northshore thumped the Southshore for the Crazy Ivan IV, 257 to 153. Precision results, thoroughly vetted and audited by the governing body, are as follows:

    1. Speedy Gonzales 31:22 (6:30 average pace)-recruited years ago by Jose 10k
    2. Amnesia 33:55
    3. In Time 34:07
    3. Cowbell 34:07
    5. The Hammer 34:34
    6. Saban 35:09
    7. Kuch 35:37
    8. Steve 36:45
    9. TankedUp! 37:20
    10. RevSox 37:36
    11. Sogo 37:47
    12. Hog’s Breath 40:25
    13. Thumb War 41:30
    14. Bongo (time between 41:30 and 42:43-you should have found me afterwards Bongo!)
    15. Snooze 42:43
    16. Pelican 42:44
    17. Shooter 43:34
    18. Flea 45:16
    19. BBQ 46.35
    20. Russo 46:55
    21. Jose 10k 47:38
    22. Pai Gow 49:55
    23. Baywatch (it was raining hard, lots was happening, Hog’s Breath was talking to me…sorry Baywatch I didn’t get your time)
    24. Belloq
    25. JV (not that JV, the other one) 55:19
    26. Kenner Brah
    27. McGiver

And honorable mentions to PickAxe and Chainsaw, The Hammer’s 2.0s, who finished the first lap together in a blistering 13 minutes.

Thanks for coming out guys. You all get a trophy for participating in this unequivocally, completely stupid and utterly pointless annual competition. YHC was thoroughly impressed with the total disregard for your personal wellbeing and safety and looks forward to a repeat performance same time next year. Over and out.

  • Panxsutawney Phil and The Gipper – from TurboTax

Panxsutawney Phil saw his shadow this morning which implies some sunlight which, in turn, confirms that he was nowhere near The Gipper. Conditions for our beatdown were Gloomy to say the least.

Plenty of shelter at The Gipper. After a warmup featuring lots of dynamic stretching, skipping, bear crawling, lunging, squatting, crab walking and running, the PAX made our way to the crescent for a EMOM extravaganza. Burpees, merkins, mountain climbers, Sister Mary Katherines, Apollo Onos, Bobby Hurleys, and a few different plank variations filled the rest of our time…roughly 30 minutes of increasing intensity. But the PAX weathered the EMOM storm just fine and made a solid downpainment on the day.

Thanks for letting me lead guys. Hope to see you all out there for the Krazy Ivan Thursday night.

  • HUMP day!! By the way Moby, what are you wearing? – from Shooter

Having missed the last few Gipper beatdowns, YHC knew he had no excuses if he took the Q… Meeting up with Steve at our WD location to carpool. Minus one of our other brethren in Bushwacker the ride produced some small talk and not the normal rambles of chatter on the drive north.. Upon arrival Steve and YHC noticed we were the first at the AO until the likes of Barely legal came rolling in.. After planting the shovel flag the 3 of us started out for a pre miler running through the streets of beautiful Covington talking some sports and mumbling about the upcoming challenge that one (unnamed) of our own is setting out to achieve.. Although the insanity of the challenge he has bestowed upon himself seems impossible, the 3 of us all agreed it will be accomplished knowing the natural desire and determination of this individual.. Beware Covington of possible Wolverine sightings in your future!! Returning to the shovel flag 4 more PAX, plus Sonny awaited as we started in our warmup..

All 15IC SSH, Toe Touches, Cherry Pickers, Arm circles, Imperial walkers, Hillbillies and Butt kicks…

YHC chose 2 coupon workouts from the Exicon, so we gathered our blocks then returned under the breezeway for FLORA 123.. Partnering up we completed the 100 200 and 300 rep count of Derkins, planks, LBCs, 6inch holds, Goblet squats and holds..
Sonny was extra motivated on this Gloom as he tried getting in some of his own versions of Monkey Humpers with mans best friend.. Not sure where the motivation came from but maybe it was the cologne or soap, which prompted other PAX to inquire about the secret aroma for potential attractant at home with the M… Not sure if it would work but let’s just say it was in the air at the Gipper on this day with the abundance of attempts displayed by ole Sonny (Turbo dawg) on this HUMP day!!!
After finishing we took our blocks to the parking area/boat yard soon to be attorneys office for the finale.
Gorilla Complex was on tap with one modification. YHC was not sure of one of the said exercises in the rotation, so substituted Rows instead.. The just is 8 rounds of 5 exercises with 8 reps followed by a 50 yard sprint between each round.. With coupon 8 curls, 8 rows, 8 shoulder presses, 8 squat thrusters and 8 Merkins then sprint/mosey for 50 yards.. R/R 8x

Hope you got your monies worth gentleman and until the next Gloom 👍🏼👊🏼✌🏼!!

  • Tribute to Bobby Hurley – from TurboTax

YHC is no Duke fan. He’s a Georgia fan like Yankee. Go Dawgs! But that didn’t stop YHC from paying a tribute of sorts to the Duke basketball star this morning.

After a quick warmup of seal jacks, shoulder taps, imperial walkers, Peter Parkers, hillbillies, Parker Peters, SSHs, and merkins, the PAX made its way to the back of the Justice Center for the first of two AMRAPS.

7 minutes of Bobby Hurleys, broken up into sets of five by a trip up and down the rear Justice Center stairs.

Bear crawl/merkins and lunge walk/Bobby Hurleys through Oak Alley to the front of the Justice Center for the second AMRAP.

7 minutes of hand release merkins, broken up into sets of five by a trip of crossover runs up and down the front Justice Center stairs.

Another trip down Oak Alley…this time sprint/coast and crab walk/crab cakes.

Mosey back to the Shovel Flag for some Mary. Front plank, Jane Fondas, Scuba Steves, more shoulder taps, Nolan Ryans and finally some dynamic back planks.

Good work this morning guys. Thanks as always for letting me lead.

  • Blockheads – from TurboTax

Seven blockheads with a combined age of over 370 years posted at The Gipper this morning. Bean and Cowbell usually lower our average age, but they both fartsacked. So we beat ourselves up without them.

Warmup of Merkins, Seal Jacks, Peter Parkers, Side Straddle Hops, Mountain Climbers, Imperial Walkers, Shoulder Taps, Hillbillies, J Lo’s, and 10 burpees then we grabbed our blocks and headed over to the Boatyard for the main event.

    3 cones 15 yards apart.

Partnered up and partner one carried both partners’ blocks 30 yards to the 3rd cone and back while partner two performed burpees, flap jack until the partners reach 50 total burpees.

OH carry with 50 hand release Merkins.

Bear block crawls with 100 Bobby Hurleys.

Lunge/frog jumps with block around the worlds.

Bear crawl/jogs with block figure 8s.

And between each round we hit some agility drills and sprints with a grand finale of two all out sprints before heading back to the shovel flag.

Great work this morning guys. Pretty good for a bunch of old dudes. Thanks for letting me lead.

  • Back to the Boatyard – from TurboTax

It was back to the boatyard with our coupons this morning in the Gloom after a warmup of Imperial Walkers, Peter Parkers, Hillbillies, Parker Peters, Seal Jacks, Shoulder Taps, SSHs and Merkins, all IC 10x, with 5 burpees OYO to wrap things up.

Four cones spaced 10 yards apart comprised our playing field. Each round consisted of an exercise with the coupon first (swings, around the worlds, figure 8s, and V seated shoulder presses) followed by a coupon carry (suitcase, overhead or soldier), mixed in with various modes of travel (jog, backpedal, shuffle, skip, lunge, bear crawl, crab walk, frog jumps) and capped off by a 30 yard sprint.

After six or seven rounds, we made our way back to the shovel flag with a few stops for Manmakers.

Bean prayed us out after BBQ confessed to various offenses and then we were off to start our respective work days.

Thanks for letting me lead guys. It’s always fun.

  • Inaugural Fire Fighter Challenge – from Bushwacker

Since April 27 of this year YHC has been, for better or worse, persona non grata around the F3 northshore. I’ve done my best to show my face at least enough so that yous guys don’t forget what I look like. The Wacker of bushes has been on a journey to become a community servant as a Wacker of Fires. And thus, the long awaited, highly anticipated Fire Fighter Challenge has arrived!

During academy, and from time to time on shift, we don our turnout gear – boots, pants jacket, hood, helmet, and mask – and go “on air” slinging a self-contained breathing apparatus and 4000 PSI air tank onto our backs – up to 80lbs! We then perform a series of strenuous activities which test our strength, stamina and endurance. And so it was with great preparation and only last minute planning that YHC brought to the men of the Lakefront a facsimile thereof as well as could be expected in the gloom. And, perhaps, a tradition was born?

    WARMORAMA

In increasing reps starting with 12 (excepting for supersticious 13):
    SSH,
    High Knees
    Butt Kicks
    Cherry Pickers
    Windmills
    Fire Hydrants

    THANG

We mossied to the gazebo for a few quick rounds of Merkin Waves and Squat Waves. This allowed for 2 things: QIC’s opportunity to count PAX for teams, and one of our resident byciclists, Turbo, to catch up to the crew.

We then mossied to the shaft where, thanks to help from early birds Steve, Shooter, and Waterpik, the field was set! Breaking up into teams of appx. 3 the PAX lined up, each at a station including the Tire Toss, the Ax Chop, the Tire Flip, the Tire Drag, the Tire Pull, and Moby Chain Drag. While P1 was tackling the task, P2 & P3 was doing a specified exercise, including LBCs, Flutter Kicks, Mnt Climbers, High Knees, Leg Lifts and Gas Pumpers.Somewhere along the way, Waterpick split the massive log, and in a temper tantrum over having not been he who split the mighty oak, the lugubrious Shooter shattered the hickory handle of the ax! There was continuous conversation as men of all ages and capabilities gave it their all battling amongst a sea of black rubber with shimmerings of silver links, all covered in the grassy morning dew. After a couple of rounds, proving to edict that many a hands make light a work, the PAX loaded all the coupons back on the trailer from whence it came, and back to the flag we mosied.

    MARY

With 3 minutes to spare, it was on your 6 for 20 Putins IC, 20 Flutter Kicks IC, and 100 100s OYO.

    COT

Count and name-o-rama before naming FNG Dangerfield. Turbo prayed us out. (and Cowbell made it just in time for “Amen”)

Gentlemen, it was a pleasure that I’ve missed, being back in the main event, and I want to thank ll of you for making F3 Northshore what it is, and allowing me the humble honor of leading you bunch of yahoos through a taste of a new chapter of my life.
