It’d been awhile since I last Q’d, and with one two many beignets eaten at Beignet Fest over the weekend—it was time to step up, show up and get moving.
Warmup
Face the bacon for: SSH, grass grabbers, Abe Vigodas, Worlds Greatest stretch, Peter Parkers, Parker Peters, Dying cockroach.
Mosey across to the fields of NOMA for:
8-count suicides
Start at one tree – 5 eight count bodybuilders (8CtBB). Every other tree we added 5 8CtBB. Sprinting back to start (I think we actually did 5 8CtBB every start—memory is hazy). Then sprinted to next furthest tree. PAX did NOT thank me for NOT racking and stacking these. We’ll rack and stack next time. Goal for today was to keep it moving, burn off beignets. Finished when we got to 20 8ctBBs- was enough.
Mosey 30 ft to flag. At fountain
Dips and alternating reverse lunges off the fountain bench. I’ve probably got the name of these wrong, but Tripple Shift was happy to see these included.
Mosey to back of NOMA for:
10 overhead claps, or air presses in the people’s chair, 5 donkey kicks, 1 to the wall shoulder press==that’s 1, goal is for 3.
Mosey back to flag for:
5 minute plank.
Story Time! Last week I was in line at the pharmacy, and a guy walked in with a supermarket uniform on—I turned around and the guy had put on a pharmacy polo- rolling off one shift, crossing the street and clocking into another. We talked as he rang me up. He’s a young dad, who’s hustling for his 7month old daughter, and it’s rough—especially when you know you’re missing key times with her. Time you’ll never get back. His motivation was pure, his hustle was insane. I kept thinking of how many other young dads are grinding like this, how many people in our city, our country are employed, hustling, but still struggling. I don’t know how to help everyone, but I’m going to help this guy out with some cash because I remember how hard I had to grind, and I’m fortunate that now I can give.
The PAX liked this story, but unfortunately it was 1-2min short of 5min. So we filled the time remaining with Dad Jokes. Of course one or two Pax told their jokes with punchline first, realizing their error to a crowd of groans. Classic Dad!
We sprinted around NOMA to break the tension. More groans followed, after the sprint, it was time for
Ab circle: featuring all the hits, Freddy Mercury’s, Box cutters, Hip Thrusters, V-ups, Low-Slow Squats and merkins (you cannot argue with Whopner- his form is too good).
Count off, name-o-rama, intentions and COT:
Welcome FNG…Skeeter! Glad to have you.
COT: Everyday I do F3, I’m better than yesterday. It’s because of people like you that I’m better. We just pushed each other physically, now the challenge is to push ourselves mentally. Get outside our comfort zone, to assist others and to learn from others.
We all know there’s immense problems in our city, our country and our world. It can be overwhelming. Something I often think of is the words of President Kennedy,
“Our problems are manmade–therefore, they can be solved by man. And man can be as big as he wants. No problem of human destiny is beyond human beings. Man’s reason and spirit have often solved the seemingly unsolvable–and we believe they can do it again.”
I agree with this, but it will only happen if we push each other to be better. Thank you for pushing me. As we get closer to the holidays, think of ways you can contribute your time, your effort or your money to help those around you.
Closed with sweaty ball of man and Our Father.
SYITG,
DAX
