  • Soccer Rope – from Fracsac

After completing IPC Monday at Rock City behind a locked gate listening to the Fast Tax Q have fun in the gloom, YHC opted not to repeat IPC and took the Q for some fun at the Goldmine.
After a warmup, we grabbed some cones, a rope, and a soccer ball and hit the field. It was all fun and games, still getting in 3 or so miles.
Aside from a few rope burns and a Kennah Brah circle of doom, it was somewhat safe.

  • Just the Three of Us… – from Fast Tax

Three PAX avoided the IPC madness for a day, choosing to venture forth to the Goldmine. YHC did not have a clue how many would heed the call, so a little over-preparation was necessary. Unfortunately, my plans largely anticipated at least four. Alas, that was not the case (thanks @Rudy) as some appeared to have slept in today. No matter, with a comfortable wind in our face, and YHC’s big bag of stuff, we endeavored to make it entertaining at least.

Warmups were a sprinkle of Fast Tax favorites: Hairy Rockettes, Toy Soldiers, Mountain Goats, Nancy Kerrigans, and Manatees. Sufficiently warmed, it was time to see what YHC had in the bag…

First item out of the bag was……drum roll……a balloon.

Introducing a new Fast Tax creation; we’re calling it Plank Floaters (credit to Bogey and PVC for naming ideas).

Plank Floaters begins with one PAX holding a balloon while the remaining PAX, in a plank position, create a circle around him. PAX count off (remembering their number) and the game begins with the PAX in the center calling out a number as he hits the balloon into the air. The PAX whose number is called must jump up and hit the balloon back up, before it touches the ground, while calling out another number. Meanwhile, after each PAX hits the balloon, they sprint to the spot around the circle just left open by the PAX they just called. If the balloon hits the ground or pops, all PAX do five burpees and then play resumes.

YHC must note here that Plank Floaters was designed for a larger group and not a lot of wind. Nonetheless, we modified with no plank and the three of us just roving in and out keeping it in the air (windy). But, one person can’t touch it twice in a row. This mod made it a lot more aerobic since we had to essentially chase the balloon while avoiding obstacles and each other. By the end of the exercise, we had done 80 burpees.

Putting away the last balloon, b/c YHC popped three of them, we reached in the bag for the next item – a disc…Disc Burpee anyone?

Forming a triangle, the disc was thrown(?) from one PAX to the next, with PAX taking one step back for every rotation around the triangle. If you dropped or missed a disc that was catchable, you had 2 burpees. Conversely, if you overthrew or underthrew, you had 2 burpees. By the end, Bogie was the clear winner, having the fewest burpees, while YHC and PVC likely made it to the 100 burpee mark for the day.

With time running out on our entertaining yet aerobic Friday fun, we headed to COT for Name-o-rama, announcements, intentions, and prayer.

    Thanks for the fellowship!

  • The Original Bootcamp – from PVC

I spread myself thin. Thanks for picking up the slack WarEagle.

Warmorama without the intended Q. Q showed up with Tire, rope, kettle bell. And plate.

    Thang:
Passed rope through the tire and pulled from one end of work out pad to next as timer.

Pax rotated between Big boy sit up with ruck plate, kettle swing, step up and merkins.

    Rinse repeat

  • Penalty Shots – from Fracsac

Two Pax posted at the Goldmine for Fun & Games Friday. With a disclaimer given and a mosey to the blue mat, we did a warmup with the usual stuff.
First up: Stations with Pax choice
Pax 1 runs 100 60 yards does 3 burpees and runs back as the timer.
Pax 2 does an exercise called by Pax 1.
Flack Jack and rinse and repeat x 5

Grab the soccer ball and head to the field. Passing drills goal to goal followed by taking turns with penalty shots on each end. Final score – 1 to 1.

    COT followed by Coffeteria.

  • Poetic Frac at the Goldmine – from Fracsac

I arrived ready at the Goldmine
looking around it was just me
    I did see a feline
    but no sign of F3

I decided to go for some miles
and while doing so came across a rabbit
soon I was radiating with smiles
as I remembered BooBoos story where he yelled dagnabit!

Then I remembered this was a beat down
so I knocked out some burpees
then I was ready to get to PJs in the next town
where the pax from the Uptowner were having some coffees.

  • Not Suitable For Sunday School – from Hawgcycle

Conditions: 64 degrees, 87% Humidity, Wind 3.4 mph from ESE
Pax: The Sac, HC Mambi, War B*tch, Boo, Cyber, and YHC

    Warm-up:
    SSH x 25; Imperial Walkers x 25; Peter Parkers x 20; Windmills x 10; LBCs x 25

    The Thang:
Line up near the stairs. One man runs up and around the stairs back to the end of the line. Each man moves up one position in the line.
    • Position 1 – Big Boi Sit-ups
    • Position 2 – Bakerd Lunges
    • Position 3 – Merkins
    • Positon 4 – Flutter Kicks
    • Position 5 – Burpees
Everyone went through the line twice

Mosey to the middle of the field where we played some games with a couple of flying orb balls
    • Game 1 – Keep the two flying orbs in the air as long as possible
    • Game 2 – Divide into teams of 3. Each team counts down from 10 with each tap of the orb. Whatever number you are on when the orb hits the ground is the number of burpees you do.
    • Game 3 – Everyone takes a seat around a giant square. Man in the middle taps the orb in the air and calls out someone’s name and trades places with that person. The person called has to run to the orb tap it and call out another name….etc. I can’t say this went well.
    • Game 4 – 2 teams of 3. One team does burpees as long as the other team keeps the orb in the air. Teams switch roles once the orb hits the ground.

After the orbs died we moseyed to the soccer field to play some poker. The deck of cards was located at the south goal. Starting at the North goal, run to the deck and grab a card. Bring it back and do the exercise and number of reps on the card. Continue until you have 7 cards or time runs out. At the end we made our best five card hand. Losers did 10 burpees. YHC did a pool side stretch.

    Mosey back to the flag.

    • First complaint from the pax formerly known as War Eagle came 35 seconds into the workout when he thought the mosey to the warm-up was too long.
    • Second complaint from the pax fka War Eagle came 6 minutes and 20 seconds into the workout when we got down in the grass to do LBCs.
    • Third complaint from the pax fka War Eagle came 8 minutes and 10 seconds into the warm-up when we headed to the stairs.
    • I lost track after that.
    • The flying orbs were fun and have lots of potential. YHC, Mambi and War Bleep, were professionals from the get go. Once we stopped to watch Frac, Boo, and Cyber C, we were embarrassed for them. It made sense why the ladies walking the track were pointing and laughing. Even with YHC’s literary skills, I can’t figure out how to explain what they were doing.
    • YHC wanted to call it quits on the Orb Game #3, but War %*$#@ said we could figure it out. I was inspired by his never say die attitude, so we continued the game. We never figured it out.
    • On Slack yesterday Frac declared that he is terrible at card games. He ain’t lyin’
    • Frac ended the workout with one of the most unnecessary modifications of all time.
    • Boo is starting a Book Club at Pontiff. Just show up 15 minutes prior to the workout.

  • PAX of 1 – from Mambi

Pax of 1 had Fun. Wish you were there.

  • From No Q to Q School – from Hokie

YHC saw the schedule with “Q needed”

So while in route to see if PVC was posting solo while Frac was out of town, I thought about Q School.

Upon arrival I was greeted by PVC who was all alone.

So we started with a disclaimer and Q school as me moseyed toward the path around the stadium with periodic stops and showing PVC various styles of workouts using SmartWOD… EMOM, AMRAP & Tabata

We also discussed cadence vs OYO.

As we wrapped up our 45 minutes we found Kenner Brah
